Solid shampoo bars

First there are the base ingredient:

Sodium Coco sulfate shampoo bars

                                               -Sodium Coco Sulfate-

Our wholesale shampoo bars use this naturlly derived ingredient from whole coconut oil. The more common ingredient for shampoos is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), made from one isolated oil from coconut, lauric acid. Using only Lauric acid such as SLS causes an imbalance and strips your hair of natural oils to balance out this imbalance. SLS has a smaller particle size (dalton size) which allows it to get into you skin, this causes irritation to many people who are sensitive to this. With all of the other environmental pollutants we are commonly exposed to, sensitivity to many things overall has been on the rise. SLS has become mainstream due to the lower cost and availability. Many degreasers used in car washes and other janitorial type products use SLS for its superior oil stripping properties. This can be offset by adding natural oils and still using SLS for shampoo but the particle size issue and higher likelihood of irritation still remain.

Sodium Coco sulfate (SCS) uses the whole coconut oil, much like a whole food version is balanced and better for you, such is the case with SCS. Many people still cite that since it has "Sulfate" in the name that it is inherently bad. Much like fats were blacklisted in earlier diet trends as the one thing to avoid, it was soon realized that to cut out fats came at a great detriment to your health. Some fats are harmful and best to be cut or reduced, some fats though have critical roles to accomplishing your bodies processes optimally. Sulfates accomplish a very necessary role with their surface tension and anionic attraction to remove dirt and excessive oil from your hair. Removing dead skin cells and dirty oil from your scalp is a must, using a sulfate free shampoo can leave a lot of this behind and foster bacteria and fungus growth on your scalp that can lead to dandruff and dreaded scalp itch, as well as thinning hair overtime.

Many will opt for a soap version of shampoo too, they are easier and cheaper to make but the PH of bar soap is very high and not ideal for hair, the performance is sub par as well, leaving residue and your hair heavy, light and bouncy is the way to go! All soap type products are made by adding either something on either extreme of the PH chart to an oil, splitting it up to create a salt and oil saponification. That is why you will see the ingredient start often with "sodium etc". That is because the process has taken place prior to making the shampoo bar and yielded an ingredient used for shampoo. Whereas soap has sodium hydroxide (lye) added to the oils at the same time in the product to split up the fatty acids and make soap. That's for natural soaps (vegan) most commercial big brand soaps use sodium tallowate (tallow= beef fat) mixed with sodium hydroxide. Often Lye isn't listed on ingredients as its been neutralized, changed forms and isn't in the final product when its all done.

Both ways try to get to the same place, some ways get there with better results in the end, this is how we feel about Sodium Coco Sulfate for hair.
